In 2010, I ran my first full marathon in Chicago. I thought it'd be my only marathon...who on earth would want to run for 4+ hours straight more than once...but my experience was so incredible, I decided shortly after finishing that I would definitely do 'just one more.' Maybe I was a glutton for punishment, maybe I just thoroughly enjoyed the 'alone time' that forced training pushed into my schedule full of play dates, errands, and negotiations with a toddler (shhh...), but almost four years later, I have completed just under 4 marathons. Two in Chicago, almost two in Boston. My race was left unfinished last year by an unimaginable tragedy, but I am back in 2014 to finish what I started, while continuing to support and raise funds for an organization that does amazing work day in and day out. I'm excited to lace up my sneakers for my 5th marathon and am even more thrilled to do it again for Cradles to Crayons.
Cradles to Crayons is an amazing, amazing organization that I have been lucky enough to support for the past 2 years and I am honored to be a part of their marathon team again this year. This organization makes it its' mission to provide clothing, shoes, winter coats, books, school supplies, and developmental toys to those children forced to go without. Working through a collaborative model of local social service partners who know the children best, teachers, social workers, preschool directors, and literacy coaches place orders for the children they work with. The orders are filled by volunteers in the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory warehouse with items that were donated from the community.
Kevin & I are so incredibly lucky to be able to provide all of the essentials that our girls need to thrive and succeed, but there are so many children who are not in the same position as Anna & Caroline. By running on behalf of C2C, I hope to help bring these much-needed items to children throughout MA, while also sharing this journey of giving-back, commitment, and hard work with my girls. I am not just running for that 'alone time', but for much, much more.
Please consider making a donation, of any amount (truly!), to C2C on my behalf. Your support means the world to me, and I promise to be thinking of you come April 21st when I approach the start in Hopkinton and the finish line on Boylston Street. It is sure to be an experience of a lifetime, for a very worthy cause.
*Cradles to Crayons is a registered 501 (c)(3) charity and the full amount of your donation is tax deductible.
